Little girl

Here's a quotation sent by a writing webfriend. So appropriate for so many crones!

You may search my time-worn face, You'll find a merry eye that twinkles.
I am NOT an old lady, Just a little girl with wrinkles!
--Edythe E. Bregnard

Preventive maintenance

April 7, 2010
Not a purely fun day. Sushi for lunch—that’s fun, but then a doctor visit. I’m not sick, I’m performing preventive maintenance—but still, it’s not much fun. I still get as apprehensive as when I was 6 and went to Dr. Cultra for my first-grade check up.

New Experience

I'm home, not homeless. I learned a lot about the difference today. I worked my first shift at the Beacon--Christ Church Cathedral's weekend homeless shelter. I worked in the laundry, mostly handing out the freshly laundered clothes to folks. Many only have one outfit, so they wear scrubs while we wash their clothes. Then they shower, put on the clean clothes and return to the streets. Most are very grateful. So am I. I'm glad I have the chance to help. I'm thinking outside of myself. I've always done volunteer work and helped others. It is time now to take it to a new level.

All in the wording

When is it seizing the day, when is it piddling around, what does it matter if I'm having fun? If I'm having fun, I am seizing the day, or at least reaching out to it.

Time to enjoy

One thing I'm learning, trying to learn, or relearning--to enjoy small beauties. Here is one from a yard I passed on my Saturday morning walk/adventure. Texas bluebonnets. And here is a surprise--I posted this picture on Facebook--and two high school friends and, like me, Texas Panhandle natives, admitted--they neither have ever seen the state flower. One commented that in Amarillo, we know it's spring when we see the first tumbleweed.

Today commences the count down. Three months from today I achieve my 3 score and 10. That’s gotta be cronehood—and I’ve been practicing divahood for sometime, although I’m still trying to get the hang of it. (Younger sisters start out at a disadvantage, but we quickly compensate!)

Nothing breathtaking today but the realization that if I don’t take the time to enjoy life now. . . You finish the sentence. Today I’m enjoyed city life: a trip to a plant sale, a mid afternoon talk at an art gallery on Harold Bugbee and western art, we’re going to Jones Hall to see Joel Grey and Marvin Hamlisch. They both in my cohort (1932 and 1944). Maybe I’ll get some pointers.

Here I am at the plant sale. I haven't given up wearing the peace sign. The gold Tiffany bracelet on my right arm was my golden anniversary gift--it was designed the same year we married.

Watch this space

What went before was a warm-up. Tomorrow begins the real countdown to true Cronehood (diva style). Tune in. It will be fun! Fruitful!
